Dental care during Ramadan: planning your routine
Changes to sleep and meal times can make routines harder to keep. Plan dental care around your circumstances and discuss any medical concerns early.

Prepare before routines change
Check whether a review or ongoing treatment is due and ask about appointment timing. Bring questions about medicines or aftercare to your clinician before Ramadan rather than trying to adjust a plan yourself.
Keep the daily care in place
Choose a practical schedule for brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, including before sleep, and cleaning between the teeth. If you need guidance about fasting practice, speak with a trusted religious adviser as well as your clinician. This article does not give religious rulings.
Think about the eating and drinking window
When not fasting, plan regular access to water and consider how frequently sweet drinks and snacks are consumed. Compare your usual choices and make manageable changes rather than relying on mouthwash to compensate for missed cleaning.
Medicines and symptoms need individual advice
Do not change, skip or compress prescribed doses without a healthcare professional’s advice. Ask about safe timing and fasting if you have a medical condition. Pain or swelling should be assessed promptly rather than left until the month has ended.
