Leave with a clear plan

A first visit, or a fresh start
Whether your child is new to the dentist or has had a difficult experience, you are welcome to begin with a conversation.
When should I bring my child?
Arrange a first visit when their first baby teeth appear, or before their first birthday. If your child is older, contact us to arrange a starting point.
What if my child is nervous?
Tell us before the appointment. Share any sensory sensitivities, communication preferences or previous worries so we can discuss suitable support.
We recommend review timing and care according to your child’s individual needs.
Toothache, swelling or an injury?
Contact us promptly for advice and an assessment. Seek emergency medical care immediately if swelling affects your child’s breathing or swallowing.
What if treatment is needed?
We explain why care is recommended and discuss suitable options, which may include preventive care or a filling. If your child needs more complex care, we discuss the appropriate next steps or referral.
Small habits for growing smiles
Start with the first tooth. Brush twice daily for about two minutes, including before bed. Help your child until they can brush well themselves, usually until at least age 7.
Under 3
Use a smear of fluoride toothpaste containing at least 1,000ppm.
Ages 3–6
Use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste containing 1,000–1,500ppm.
Ages 7 and over
Use fluoride toothpaste containing 1,350–1,500ppm; keep checking their brushing.
Encourage spitting without rinsing when your child can manage it. Ask your dentist which strength suits their needs. Limit frequent sugary snacks and choose water instead of sweetened drinks.
Questions parents often ask
Do baby teeth need care if they will fall out?
Yes. Baby teeth can develop decay and pain. Caring for them and attending reviews helps us monitor your child’s oral health.
Will every visit include treatment?
No. Your dentist assesses your child and explains what is needed. A visit may focus on an examination, advice or getting familiar with the clinic.
What should I tell my child before the visit?
Keep the explanation simple and calm: the dentist will look at their teeth and help you care for them. Let us know if you would like help preparing.
Can I ask about fluoride varnish or sealants?
Yes. Your dentist can explain whether fluoride varnish or protective fissure sealants are appropriate for your child.
How often should my child return?
Your dentist recommends the next review based on their oral health and risk of future problems.
My child has additional needs. Can we discuss these?
Please contact us before booking. Share the support your child may need so we can discuss appointment arrangements and appropriate care.
