10 dental changes you should not ignore
Symptoms are a reason to ask for advice, not a diagnosis by themselves. These ten changes can help you explain what is happening when you contact a dental team.
Updated 21 October 2026

Ten changes to report
- Toothache that persists or keeps returning.
- Pain when biting.
- New or worsening sensitivity.
- Gums that bleed repeatedly.
- Red, swollen or sore gums.
- A loose adult tooth.
- A broken tooth or damaged filling.
- Persistent bad breath or an unusual taste.
- A mouth ulcer lasting longer than three weeks.
- Swelling of the gum, cheek or jaw.
When it is urgent
Possible infection with swelling, fever or severe pain needs urgent dental assessment. Seek emergency medical care immediately for difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling around an eye or into the neck, or rapidly increasing mouth swelling. Do not wait for a WhatsApp reply in an emergency.
Help us understand the problem
Explain when it began, where it hurts and whether eating or sleeping is affected. Mention fever, swelling, a recent injury and medicines already taken. You do not need to decide which treatment you need before calling.
Even without symptoms
Some dental problems cause little discomfort at first. Keep the review schedule recommended for you, and contact the team sooner when something changes.
