DENTAL ADVICE · SMILE BY DR NOURA
Common smile-care mistakes and how to avoid them
A brighter smile can be a welcome goal. Make room for a conversation about health, maintenance and expectations before choosing treatment.

Choosing a treatment before an examination
Start by explaining your concern in your own words. A photograph or an online treatment name does not show the condition of your gums, roots or bite. Ask what the examination found and which options are reasonable for you.
Expecting appearance to tell the whole story
Tooth decay can be present before it becomes painful. A white tooth is not proof that it is healthy. Cosmetic decisions are easier to make when any active disease has been assessed first.
Assuming whitening changes every surface
Whitening works on natural teeth and does not whiten crowns, fillings or implants. Sensitivity and gum irritation can occur. Discuss existing restorations and the result you hope for before starting.
Forgetting care after treatment
Orthodontic treatment requires ongoing cleaning and a retention plan. Ask about maintenance before committing, including what happens if an appliance breaks or your circumstances change. A useful plan explains responsibilities as well as the procedure.
Questions to bring to your visit
- What problem are we treating?
- What are the alternatives, including waiting?
- What will I need to maintain afterwards?
